A most unusual poetry reading.....

Bloomsday is celebrated in Ireland on 16th June. It is the day that the events within James Joyce's book Ulysses were said to have taken place.

The following 'reading' took place on Bloomsday in 1999. It was held, as will become clear, in Back Stowell Street, next to the city wall of Newcastle upon Tyne, where Morden Tower, the famous poetry venue is situated. Stowell St. is the centre of Newcastle's chinese quarter and the background noise is the many air conditioning fans at the rear of the restaurants.
